15 June Mansilla de Las Mulas to La Virgen del Camino
Yesterday evening I shared a large bottle of beer with a guy called Hamilton from Brazil. A little later he invited me to share a meal with him. It turned out to be a large affair he had organised, to which my only contribution was a bottle of wine and a carton of orange juice.
This is Hamilton cooking a huge paella for as many people as he could encourage to join him.
These were his other guests. You might recognise some faces from previous posts I have made.
This is me with Hamilton, his wife Eliete and a person called Sonia (I think her travelling companion was upstairs when this was taken).
The evening was an entirely pleasant experience. Communication was mainly through a translator on the internet and it was funny how we all wanted to say the same thing and ask the same questions of each other.
This morning as I was doing my stretching exercise to start the day Hamilton quietly walked up to me, smiled shook my hand and gave me this flag.
Leon was a hop, skip and a jump away from us today. Only 18 kilometres. We knew that probably wouldn’t be enough for us and it turned out that way.
The whole days’ walk consisted mainly of urban built up areas, industrial areas, the streets of Leon and further industrial areas. It wasn’t something to write home about (so why am I writing about it now I hear you ask?).
A toe wiggle was practiced here.
This water fountain told me I have walked nearly 500 kilometres.
Some 4 hours of tedious walking brought me into Leon.
Where I left a message for Alana and Ethan in a prominent spot. Can you see it here.
Here, have a closer look at that same photograph.
I saw some flowers………
…… And got my photograph taken alongside them to prove I exist.
5 miles later with more tedious uninspiring walking through built up areas, tonight’s bed was found.
And I found Harper from Colorado.
My laundry is the last 4 items on the left in this photo. It is not all fun and games folks. Some things still need to get done regardless of where you are or how happy you are.
Steps today 37701 …….. Most which were not nice walking at all,,,,,,, said with apologies to all the good people of Leon. 🙂
Bye for now folks.
