07 June Acupuerta to Burgos

Last night was one of those nights that leaves me wanting to apologise, even though what happened was so caminoesque.

Most of us have suffered snores and borers these last two weeks or so. Some of us have had creaky beds, some of us have been kept awake by snorers and snorers with creaky beds. Some poor unfortunate souls have had to share rooms with non-snorers who are restless sleepers occasionally and get a creak bed. To you who suffered my restlessness in my very creaky bed last night I say sorry.

The trail was under our feet as early as 6-40 this morning and in the cool morning air most of us were in high if though quiet spirits for the day promised our first early stop with something to do and see at the end of it – Burgos. The early day looked promising.

Quite soon into the the day we experienced our first hill. Now then, I am not one to complain about any aspect of walking but hey! This was a challenge for the unwary. It was one of those hills with deeply set rocks, boulders and stones embedded into hard clay. Any unwary pilgrims or those with developing foot problems would soon know they are in trouble this morning.

It seems that despite being the earliest known human in Europe, Mr Acapuerta wasn’t too much of a path or road builder. Although to be fair he was probably very busy learning how to make fire, painting the cave for Mrs Acapuerta who may have said……. “No, my dear Ug, I don’t want the deer painting there I want it over there by the dinosaur bones, and when you are finished be a good caveman and go out and catch a sabre-toothed tiger for dinner”.

I am blessed this morning to be able share part of my walk with a small Italian guy called Antonio. He takes an interest in his surrounding to the same level as I do.

I miss an important turning today through day-dreaming and suffer terribly as I have no option toons the pavements and streets of Burgos for nearly two hours to fins my bed for the night. It was dreadful walking.

I eventually find what I am looking for and queue with others who wait for the doors to open.

As we wait, Naomi form Japan and I laugh and chat.

I get a bed here (number 144)’ the guy standing up is Italian, he offered me a biscuit.

I get my laundry done and head to find wifi, food and drink and take the sights in.

I need new underpants so go in search of some. I look here……

…and here…

I look everywhere and find the last guy that tried to buy underpants here….

Look at that again folks……… Who is that walking along his left arm?

I give up searching and at the same time feel a tap on my shoulder and turn to see a face I am happy to see. A short discussion and we part ways again. A few minutes later I am here in the bar……. DIRECTLY opposite where I am sleeping with a great wifi connection. Unbelievable! Nearly 3 hours searching and it’s where I started from.

Steps so far today 32416.

Bye for now

Speak later.
